IICS Language Acquisition Teachers
As could be expected, our Language Acquisition teachers come from a variety of different backgrounds. Amongst our 8 department members, we have 11 different passports and speak 8 different languages - so hopefully this ensures that we bring a mixture of backgrounds and approaches to the classroom and that we use our experience in language learning to maximise the beneficial outcomes for our students.
In alphabetical order, here are the teachers who make Language Acquisition happen at IICS:

Kim Cavender teaches MYP (Grades 7-10) English B and Academic Writing at IICS. Kim is an American with two sons at university in the USA and lives here in Bahcesehir with her adopted street dog, Baci. She has lived in Chile and Italy prior to coming to Istanbul and loves to travel during school vacations.

David Duwyn teaches MYP (Grades 7-10) and DP (Grades 11-12) French at IICS. David is a Belgian who grew up in France and also speaks Spanish, Flemish and Mandarin. Confused? So is he sometimes. David has a great interest and background in service-based Learning and is one IICS' two CAS Coordinators.

Malin Falkestrom teaches MYP (Grades 7-10) and DP (Grades 11-12) Spanish as well as DP English B, which is quite impressive given that she is Swedish. Malin's knack for languages, her blonde hair and love of mountains, frozen lakes and snow make her a perfect representation of the stereotypical Swede. Did we mention that she loves ABBA and Eurovision?

Marc Favre teaches MYP (Grades 7-10) French. Marc was born in Switzerland, but raised in Australia, making toasted Vegemite and cheese the perfect start to a day for him.
|
Hulya Kaplangi teaches MYP (Grades 7-10) French, German and English B as well as DP (Grades 11-12) German. As if that wasn't already impressive enough, Hulya also speaks fluent Turkish and puts much of our department to shame in terms of her language knowledge. Hulya also has a passion for Eurovision, meaning that she and Malin have to be separated at department meetings at times.

Lucia Marmolejo Jimenez teaches MYP (Grades 7-10) and DP (Grades 11-12) Spanish. Lucia hails from Mexico City and can Zumba with the best of them.
|
Nicola Pryor teaches MYP (Grades 7-10) English B. Nicola is also IICS's Drama teacher which means her English classes are certainly never short of creativity.
|
Alex Varennes teaches MYP (Grades 7-10) French and English and DP (Grades 11-12) French. Alex is a dual French/British citizen, which mean rugby, football and European history are topics best avoided.
